Culture has sought to influence young people for as long as we can remember, but today it feels more aggressive and more intentional. One major influence is the education system. Public education is no longer neutral – it is seeking to promote the world’s own biblically opposing truths about morality, gender ideals, family, and even at times, faith. In the middle of this culture shift many families are recognizing what is happening and are searching for an alternative. One such alternative is the Christian school. According to a 2024 survey by the Cato Institute, 40% of private schools reported increased enrollment between the 2023–24 and 2024–25 school years. Among these schools, 69% attributed the growth to a values alignment between the school and parents[1].

Christian schools are not replacements for parents or churches but serve as partners in discipleship. Education will always shape children. The Christian school can be a tool God uses to build on the foundation of knowledge and faith that was begun in the home and church.

As families search for an alternative, this cultural shift demands faithful educators committed to shaping the next generation. As Christian educators, we must take our role seriously – because our mission has never been more urgent. We must remain faithful and strive to address the needs of this generation. You see, Christian education is not merely a good thing to have, it is an important battleground for the hearts and minds of children to follow Christ.

The goal of Christian education is not to keep students from their culture, but to train them in a way that they can develop their own biblical worldview to engage their culture for Christ. The classroom at a Christian school should be one that develops critical thinking rooted in the Word of God. It is through the lens of Scripture that science, literature, history, and math are not merely academic exercises, but opportunities to learn about God’s order, creativity, and truth.

The world our children live in is a messy one. Culture is relentless in daily pressuring kids to conform to their mold – when God is telling them to be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:2). Christian education wants to equip students to meet these pressures head-on, rooted in Scripture, and living counter-culturally.
